South west regional council :A one day capacity building workshop to bond with the population

Members of the South West regional Council have expressed optimism and zeal to create an atmosphere that would foster developmental projects within the region.

The regional councillors were speaking on the sidelines of a one day capacity building workshop which was organised during the weekend . The workshop which took place at the premises of the National School of Local Administration NASLA, brought together members of the South West regional Council who converged with one agenda, that is to brainstorm on ways on how to strengthen ties with the public, lay down the guidelines and state the context within which developmental projects will be executed in the region which is yet to recover from the ruins of the six years old anglophone crisis.

The capacity building workshop which took place under the theme, « Roles and Responsibilities of regional councillors in the context of Law Number 019/034 instituting the General Code for Regional and Local Authorities in Cameroon », provided the people’s representatives with their roles and responsibilities vis-a-vis their immediate public and equally lectured them on the law.

By the end of the gathering, the regional councillors expressed their satisfaction while highlighting the necessity for such edifying workshops.

Honorable Tanzomo Bridget says <<this was quite an enlightening platform for us the regional councillors and it will help us realise who we are.

« the skills gathered here will help us achieve greater things and push us towards having an edifying relationship with our people », the female counselor from Lebialem added.

Hon Lydia Nanyongo Ikome regional counselor for Fako said it was equally a good experience and expressed her satisfaction and zeal towards accompanying the president and his vision while encouraging women to get incorporated into politics.

It should be noted that this workshop was the first of its kind since the inception of the Regional Council and the hope is that it produces the necessary balance for power between the people and their representatives.
