Anglophone Crisis: Between ruins and resilience

Eight years have passed since the North-West and South-West Regions of Cameroon descended into deep crisis. What began as demands by teachers and lawyers turned into armed conflict, leaving behind a landscape of human and material ruin.

Today, the scars of war are everywhere: deserted schools, impassable roads, closed hospitals, and a deeply torn social fabric.
In towns such as Kumbo, Mamfe and Muyuka, residents are trying to return to their ‘normal’ lives, although fear persists.

Despite all this, small but real signs of resilience are emerging. Young people are returning to their villages to rebuild and NGOs are providing humanitarian aid.

In various cities like Douala, some internally displaced people have managed to settle down in their new environment thanks to odd jobs or positions in the private sector.

Majority of them are very committed and travel periodically to their hometowns to organize trade workshops in soap making, sewing, and more.

A discreet but invaluable initiative to reinforce or build skills and give back meaning to those who have lost everything.

After 8 years, the anglophone crisis is not yet cured but seeds of hope are being planted, by those who refuse to give up.
